Pumba è arrivato con sua madre e due fratelli quando eravamo in Epiro, per l'8° azione di sterilizzazione. Era sola un mese di età in quel momento e ancora allattava. La famiglia intera è venuta con noi ad Atene. Il cucciolo è stato svezzato, è cresciuto, è cresciuto ulteriormente e si è trasformato in un cane alto, magro e impressionante. Questi colori e questi disegni sul suo viso lo fanno sembrare che indossi una maschera artistica. Era sempre molto, molto, molto dolce bambino, e mentre eravamo in azione è stato castrato, era il nostro preferito, perché era il più grassoccio, il più timido e l'unico dei suoi fratelli non bianco. Crescendo, era sempre il cucciolo che non prendeva l'iniziativa, ma cercava di imitare gli altri cuccioli. Se i suoi amici giocavano con un gioco, lui provava a giocare anche lui. Se i suoi amici correvano, lui correva anche lui. Se i suoi amici andavano verso le persone per le carezze, lui andava anche lui, ultimo, con un'innocenza e una esitazione che era molto carina. Se lo tocchi, catturerai il pelo più speciale disponibile in un cane (alla nostra opinione!). È denso, riccio tipo, sebbene non lungo da arricciare, con peli duri e troppo densi. TROPPO densi. Le dita non riescono a entrare per raggiungere la pelle. Questo pelo di pecora combinato con il suo carattere innocente lo rende speciale. Pumba è un cane che vuole essere sicuro, ma non sa come. Era troppo dipendente da suo fratello quando era piccolo, e in seguito ha iniziato ad attaccarsi ad altri cani nel rifugio. Quando è solo non è affatto sicuro, mentre quando c'è un altro cane con lui durante la passeggiata o nel suo spazio, è molto più aperto, ed è entro il quadro del suo carattere. È il cane che avrà bisogno di tempo per aprirsi e guadagnare fiducia, ma sarà cooperativo, anche se è timido. Lo amiamo molto. Forse perché è così innocente, forse perché è l'unico di tutti loro. Pumba came with his mother and two siblings when we were in Epirus for our 8th spay and neuter mission. He was only one month old at the time and was still nursing. The whole family came back to Athens with us. The little one was weaned, grew up, grew some more, and turned into a tall, lean, strikingly handsome dog. He was always an incredibly sweet baby. During the spay and neuter mission, he was everyone’s favorite because he was the chubbiest, the shyest, and the only one among his siblings who wasn’t pure white. As he grew up, he was always the puppy who wouldn’t take initiative on his own, but would try to copy the other puppies. If his friends were playing with a toy, he would try to play too. If they ran, he would run too. If they went up to people for cuddles, he would follow them, always last, with such innocence and hesitation that it made you want to hold him and tell him not to worry, not to be afraid, and that he was doing everything just right. If you touch him, you’ll feel what is, in our opinion, the most unique coat a dog can have. It’s dense, almost curly even though it’s not long enough to form curls, with coarse hair and an unbelievably thick undercoat. VERY thick. Your fingers can barely get through it to reach his skin. That sheep-like coat, combined with his innocent personality, makes him truly special. Pumba is a dog who wants to feel confident, but doesn’t quite know how yet. When he’s alone, he lacks confidence, but when another dog is around during walks or in his space, he becomes much more open and expressive. Still, this has slowly started to change. Pumba goes on walks regularly with our volunteers and has gradually become more affectionate and outgoing, even when there isn’t another dog beside him. He may still need some time to fully open up and trust, but he is cooperative despite his shyness. He has also stayed in a foster home, which helped us learn more about him. He is incredibly gentle and loving with the people who care for him, but hesitant around strangers. He’s not the kind of dog who gets excited when visitors come over, and ideally he shouldn’t be pressured into interacting with people he doesn’t trust. He bonds deeply with the person who takes care of him and spends the most time with him, and he may even remain cautious around family members he doesn’t know well. Pumba needs proper guidance and handling so his insecurities won’t stand in the way of his happiness. The ideal home for him would be a calm household without many people or small children. He could live with another dog, as long as there is balance and clear boundaries for both animals. VIDEO
