Πούμπα έρχετο μαζί με τη μητέρα του και τους δύο αδελφούς του όταν ήμασταν στην Επιρος, για την 8η ενέργεια της στερίλωσης. Είχε μόλις ένα μήνα σε ηλικία και ήταν ακόμα θηλασμός. Η ολόκληρη οικογένεια ήρθε μαζί μας στην Αθήνα. Το μικρό παιδί αποστείρωσε, μεγάλωσε, μεγάλωσε ακόμα περισσότερο και έγινε ένα ψηλό, λεπτό και εντυπωσιακό σκύλος. Αυτά τα χρώματα και αυτές τις σχεδιάσεις στο πρόσωπό του τον κάνουν να φαίνεται σαν να φορά ενα καλλιτεχνικό μάσκα. Ήταν πάντα πολύ, πολύ, πολύ χαριτωμένο κοριτσάκι, και κατά τη διάρκεια της ενέργειας ήταν κατεστραμμένος, ήταν το αγαπημένο μας, γιατί ήταν το πιο κορούνι, το φοβισμένο και το μόνο από τα αδέλφια του που δεν ήταν άσπρο. Μεγαλώνοντας, ήταν πάντα το κουτάβι που δεν πήρε την πρωτοβουλία, αλλά ήθελε να αντιγράψει τα άλλα κουτάβια. Αν τα φίλα του παίξουν με ένα παιχνίδι, θα παίξει και αυτό. Αν τα φίλα του τρέξουν, θα τρέξει και αυτό. Αν τα φίλα του πήγαν στα άτομα για αγκαλιά, θα πάει και αυτό, τελευταίο, με αυτό το αθωότητα και την ανασφάλεια που ήταν πολύ όμορφο. Αν το αγγίξεις, θα βρεις το πιο ιδιαίτερο τριχοτάρι που υπάρχει σε ένα σκύλο (σύμφωνα με την άποψή μας!). Είναι πυκνό, κυματιστό, αν και όχι μακρύ να σπειρωθεί, με σκληρό τρίχωμα και πολύ πυκνό. ΠΟΛΥ πυκνό. Οι δάκτυλοι δεν μπορούν να μπουν μέσα για να φτάσουν στο δέρμα. Αυτό το τρίχωμα της προβάτου συνδυασμένο με το αθώο χαρακτήρα του τον κάνει ξεχωριστό. Ο Πούμπα είναι ένας σκύλος που θέλει να είναι αυτοπεποίθηση, αλλά δεν ξέρει πώς. Είχε υπερβολική εξάρτηση από τον αδελφό του όταν ήταν βρέφος, και αργότερα άρχισε να πιάνει άλλα σκύλα στο καταφύγιο. Όταν είναι μόνος του δεν είναι καθόλου αυτοπεποιθημένος, ενώ όταν υπάρχει ένας άλλος σκύλος στη διαδρομή του ή στο χώρο του, είναι πολύ πιο ανοιχτός, και αυτό είναι εντός του χαρακτήρα του. Είναι ο σκύλος που θα χρειαστεί χρόνο για να ανοίξει και να αποκτήσει αυτοπεποίθηση, αλλά θα είναι συνεργάσιμος, ακόμα και αν είναι φοβισμένος. Τον αγαπάμε πολύ. Pumba came with his mother and two siblings when we were in Epirus for our 8th spay and neuter mission. He was only one month old at the time and was still nursing. The whole family came back to Athens with us. The little one was weaned, grew up, grew some more, and turned into a tall, lean, strikingly handsome dog. He was always an incredibly sweet baby. During the spay and neuter mission, he was everyone’s favorite because he was the chubbiest, the shyest, and the only one among his siblings who wasn’t pure white. As he grew up, he was always the puppy who wouldn’t take initiative on his own, but would try to copy the other puppies. If his friends were playing with a toy, he would try to play too. If they ran, he would run too. If they went up to people for cuddles, he would follow them, always last, with such innocence and hesitation that it made you want to hold him and tell him not to worry, not to be afraid, and that he was doing everything just right. If you touch him, you’ll feel what is, in our opinion, the most unique coat a dog can have. It’s dense, almost curly even though it’s not long enough to form curls, with coarse hair and an unbelievably thick undercoat. VERY thick. Your fingers can barely get through it to reach his skin. That sheep-like coat, combined with his innocent personality, makes him truly special. Pumba is a dog who wants to feel confident, but doesn’t quite know how yet. When he’s alone, he lacks confidence, but when another dog is around during walks or in his space, he becomes much more open and expressive. Still, this has slowly started to change. Pumba goes on walks regularly with our volunteers and has gradually become more affectionate and outgoing, even when there isn’t another dog beside him. He may still need some time to fully open up and trust, but he is cooperative despite his shyness. He has also stayed in a foster home, which helped us learn more about him. He is incredibly gentle and loving with the people who care for him, but hesitant around strangers. He’s not the kind of dog who gets excited when visitors come over, and ideally he shouldn’t be pressured into interacting with people he doesn’t trust. He bonds deeply with the person who takes care of him and spends the most time with him, and he may even remain cautious around family members he doesn’t know well. Pumba needs proper guidance and handling so his insecurities won’t stand in the way of his happiness. The ideal home for him would be a calm household without many people or small children. He could live with another dog, as long as there is balance and clear boundaries for both animals. VIDEO
