Billi werd gered van een openbare dierenasiel in Roemenië. Deze asiel zijn zwaar overbevolkt en kleine honden zoals Billi zijn het meest waarschijnlijk om aangevallen te worden, veel honden overleven deze aanvallen niet en dus was Billi een gelukkig jongen om eruit te komen. Bij aankomst bij Oakwood merkten we op dat Billi niet volledig belast was op zijn BL been. We gaven hem pijnstillers en rust in de kooi, maar toen dit niet werkte, stuurden we hem meteen naar röntgenfoto's. Helaas heeft Billi verschillende problemen met zijn benen die chirurgische ingrijpen vereisen. Zijn achterste rechterbeen: hij heeft een luxaterende kniegewricht grade 2 Zijn linkerbeen: hij heeft een luxaterende kniegewricht grade 3/4. Hij heeft ook een oude breuk die volledig onnatuurlijk is geheeld in dit been, je kunt het bot bijna door de huid voelen, zelfs bij de zachtste aanraking. Om de operatie nog moeilijker te maken, is de breuk zo onnatuurlijk geheeld dat Billi een been 2 inch korter heeft dan zijn andere. Zijn heupen zijn ook op een rotatiehoek van 20% wat Billie's dagelijks leven niet beïnvloedt, maar wel de moeilijkheid van de operatie beïnvloedt en daarom zijn we momenteel in gesprekken met specialisten over wat het beste actieplan zal zijn. We hopen idealiter een thuis voor Billi te vinden als "opvang met oog op adoptie". Alle behandelingen in verband met deze problemen zullen worden betaald door Oakwood Dog Rescue. Billi heeft goed meegewerkt met alle honden die we hem tot nu toe hebben gemengd. Hij wordt een beetje te opgewonden met de vrouwtjes en probeert ze te mounten. Als ze dat niet toestaan, staat hij op en blaft op hen :/ Vanwege de komende operaties denken we dat het het beste is voor Billi om in een huis zonder andere huishoudelijke honden te zijn. Billi was heel zacht met de kat tijdens de test, hij toonde geen jachtinstinct. Billi heeft zich als een actieve kleine hond getoond, hoewel hij snel afgeleid wordt wanneer knuffels worden aangeboden. Billi heeft nog nooit in een huis gewoond, dus moet hij zo min mogelijk alleen zijn terwijl hij zich aanpast en de regels leert. Vanwege zijn beenproblemen hebben we nog geen leibandtraining met Billi begonnen. Billi heeft geen enkele vorm van basisopleiding.

Billi was rescued from a public shelter in Romania. These shelters are severely over capacity and small dogs like Billi are the most likely to be attacked, a lot of dogs don't survive these attacks and so Billi was such a lucky boy to get out. Upon arriving at Oakwood, we noticed Billi was not fully weight bearing on his BL leg. We put him on pain meds and kennels rest but when this wasn't working, we sent him straight from X-rays. Unfortunately, it was found that Billi's hind left leg had luxating patella grade 3/4. He also had an old break that has healed so abnormally that you could feel the bone almost protruding through his skin, even with the gentlest touch. After many discussions with different specialists, it was decided that the best plan of action was to amputate the left hind leg. Billi has now had this surgery and is in recovery. He is doing amazingly well and seems so much happier without the constant pain that he must've been in. His hind right leg does also have milder luxating patella . When speaking with the vet regarding this, the answer was 50/50 as to whether he will be absolutely fine living with this with no further medical intervention and it seems to be causing him absolutely no issues at this time however, there is always the possibility later in life that the luxating patella could get worse and he could need anything from pain management to possible surgical intervention. The vet advised there was just no way of knowing but at this time, Billi is a very happy and heatlhy boy and has now been signed off from veterinary care regarding his legs. We understand that this can all sound very scary to a potentail adopter but after surviving all of the above, Billy is the most loving, cuddly and happy boy that loves every minute of his lift and he deserves the chance of a loving, forever home as much as any of the others, we really hope that people can see past his missing leg and love him for the sweet boy that he is. Billi has shown to do well with all the dogs that we have mixed him with so far. He does get a little too excited with the girls and will try to hump them. If they don't allow it, he will stand and bark at them :/ We'd consider Billy being adopted into a home with another / other dogs based on the right match however, we believe he'd also be absolutely fine as an only dog. Billi was very gently with the cat upon testing, he showed no prey drive. Billi has shown to be an active little dog although he's soon distracted when snuggles are offered. Billi has been lucky enough to spend a few weeks in foster with one of our staff members and we believe in a new home, he'd be fine to be left up to 4-5 hours Billi has been doing great with his lead training although he has started to show signs of slight dog reactivity which is currently being worked on Billi has no form of basic training althought he's done great with his toilet training. It's likely that's he'll have accidents in his new home but with consistency and patience, he has shown that he can very quickly pick up toilet training in a home
