Mavis is een klein dachshond-kruising van ongeveer vijf jaar oud. Goed met katten. Heeft een zelfverzekerde hond nodig. Alleen een volwassen huis. Op de een of andere manier heeft deze kleine meid twee jaar of langer doorgebracht in het openbaar dierenasiel van Botoșani in Roemenië. Ze overleefde het door zich vast te klemmen aan een grotere hond en in hun bescherming te blijven. Ze heeft dit gewoonte meegebracht naar het Verenigd Koninkrijk, en heeft nu een hond in haar tijdelijke opvanghuis die ze constant achtervolgt. Om eerlijk te zijn, is ze zo klein en hij zo onbewust, we denken zelfs niet dat hij zijn constante kleine klampje merkt omdat hij haar gewoon negeert..... we willen graag dat ze een thuis vindt met een hond, van welke grootte dan ook, die iets voelzamer is voor haar toewijding! Mavis is begrijpelijk bang voor mensen tot ze ze super goed kent. Ze moet gepaard worden met een zelfverzekerde hond waaraan ze kan kijken en leren over relaties tussen honden en mensen. Ze wil je niet aanraken wanneer je haar ontmoet en je moet misschien enkele weken nodig hebben om die privilege te verdienen terwijl ze overtuigd is dat je haar niet zal pijn doen. Ze heeft een volwassen omgeving nodig met een adoptant die haar liefheeft en haar angsten begrijpt... zonder tijdslimiet hoe lang het duurt om haar te bekeren. Ze kan niet als enige hond in het huis leven, ze is goed met katten. Mavis was in opvang bij Norwich Norfolk. Als u geïnteresseerd bent, stuur dan een bericht of bel tussen 9 uur en 17 uur maandag tot vrijdag of tussen 9 uur en 16 uur zaterdag. Adoptiekosten zijn Puppies die al gesteriliseerd zijn en alle volwassen honden: £430. Niet gesteriliseerde puppies met een sterilisatiecontract: £530 (u ontvangt een terugbetaling van £100 zodra u ons bewijs van sterilisatie stuurt). Oudere honden (10+ jaar): £150–£250 (afhankelijk van leeftijd en individuele behoeften). ADOPTIE VOORWAARDEN Wanneer u een hond van Safe Rescue adopteert, MOET u een slip-leash gebruiken. Dit houdt uw hond veilig: uw nieuwe hond is nerveus en vertrouwt u niet, en u weet niet welke situaties uw hond kunnen storen. Als uw hond in paniek raakt, is een slip-leash de enige manier om te voorkomen dat uw hond ontsnapt (veel honden kunnen ontsnappen uit een halsband en/of vest). Het zal MINSTENS 3-6 maanden duren voordat uw hond zich heeft ingezet en u uw hond volledig kent (langer voor nervouse honden). De slip-leash moet DURING deze inzetperiode ALTID worden gebruikt. Zelfs nadat uw hond zich heeft ingezet, is het veiligst om de slip-leash te gebruiken in situaties waarin uw hond mogelijk bang wordt (bijvoorbeeld bij bezoeken aan nieuwe plekken, rondom onbekende personen, bij de dierenarts), en situaties waar onverwachte triggers kunnen plaatsvinden (bijvoorbeeld rond bonfire night). Nervouse honden moeten altijd een slip-leash dragen als back-up veiligheidsmaatregel. De slip-leash is een veiligheidsapparaat en mag NOOIT worden gebruikt als oefeninstrument. Het gebruik van de leash om druk uit te oefenen op de nek van de hond is schadelijk. Als uw hond aan de leash trekt, kunnen wij u adviseren over trainingstechnieken die geen schade veroorzaken. Nadat uw hond zich heeft ingezet, kunt u overwegen een vest (in combinatie met de slip-leash) te gebruiken als uw hond comfortabel is met het dragen ervan. De meeste vesten zijn niet ontsnappingsbestendig, maar vesten met een riem achter de ribben (bijvoorbeeld Ruffwear Webmaster of Perfect Fit Harnesses) zijn veiliger. Retractabele / uitbreidbare lijnen mogen nooit worden gebruikt op onze honden. Mavis is a dinky little dachshund cross aged around five years old. Fine with cats. Needs a confident resident dog. Adult only home. Somehow this small girl survived two years or more in the Botosani public shelter in Romania. She survived by latching onto a bigger dog and remaining in their protection. She has brought that habit to the UK with her and has a dog in her foster home that she shadows at all times. To be honest she’s so small and he’s so oblivious we don’t even think he notices his constant little cling on because he blatantly ignores her….. we’d love her to find a home with a dog if any size that’s a bit more receptive to her devotion! Mavis is understandably afraid of humans until she knows them super well. She needs to be paired up with a confident dog that she can watch and learn from regarding dog/human relationships. She’s not going to want you to touch her when you come and meet her and you may have to take a few weeks to earn that privilege whilst she is convinced that you’re not going to hurt her. She needs an adult home environment with an adopter who will love her and understand her fears… with no time limits on how long it takes to befriend her. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer.
