Higins

Male · Puppy · 8 months

Meet Higgins! This tiny, neutered hedgehog arrived at our animal shelter just a moment ago, and the first few hours were very stressful for him. He cried a lot and protested being in the animal shelter. But as soon as he understood that no harm would come to him here and that he could expect walks, warm words, and gentle touches, his attitude changed immediately. Now he greets every familiar person with great enthusiasm—especially sticking out his belly for petting, and he doesn't need to be coaxed for walks. Higins is a young, emotional, and sensitive hedgehog. Everything he experiences is clear on his face—when he’s afraid of unknown situations, when he’s happy to see familiar faces, when he sniffs at scents... Staying in an animal shelter at this age is an unfortunate moment, so we urgently need a responsible family for him! Higins wanted to be a French bulldog, but the fateful mix-up between that breed and a Boston terrier resulted in a spiky, striped, very active young male hedgehog Higins. When considering his adoption, it’s important to take more than just aesthetic factors into account—being prepared for raising a growing hedgehog that needs an appropriate amount of exercise and rest, mental stimulation, and interaction with other hedgehogs. Higins should live in a stable environment where not much happens, and where people enjoy long walks and routines. An adult female hedgehog as a leader and companion would certainly be an additional asset and great help for Higgins and his new guardians. We invite you to meet him!

Poznajcie Higinsa! About Higins

What life with Higins looks like

Higins is a small puppy/kitten dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Higins, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Higins?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Higins on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Higins if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Higins already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Higins isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Higins and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
