A Second Chance, Doubled

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Kitten

For the first time, The Rescue Hotel will be taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge, the UK’s largest match-funding campaign! During campaign week, donations made through the Big Give platform will be matched pound for pound, meaning every gift has the potential to go twice as far for the dogs who need us most. To make this possible, a few months ago we reached out to our community to find pledgers willing to make an advance funding commitment. These generous pledges have helped us create a match-funding pot that will double public donations made to The Rescue Hotel’s campaign during the Big Give Christmas Challenge, running from 1st to 8th December 2026. Although our pledge pot was not selected for additional match funding through Big Give’s Charity Champions, thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we have raised £5,000 in pledges to match public donations during the campaign, giving us the opportunity to raise a life-changing £10,000 for the dogs this Christmas! Every dog who arrives at Cardiff Dogs Home deserves the chance of a brighter future. For some, that future depends on urgent veterinary care, and this is what we’ll be focusing our campaign on this Christmas. We’re delighted to feature some of the wonderful businesses supporting us in this photo, but this is by no means a complete list of the amazing people and businesses behind this campaign . We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to individual supporters, including Jayne Cowan MBE and Vix Simpson, on behalf of Self Esteem’s band and crew. We are especially grateful to our largest pledgers, Colour Sound Experiment, Los Campesinos, L&G, Academy and Musicbox Studios , each of whom has pledged at least £500 towards our match-funding pot. Their support has played a vital role in making this campaign possible. Planning for our December campaign is already well underway, and we can’t wait to share everything we have in store! Together, we can help make sure that by next Christmas, more dogs have left kennel life behind and are instead spending the festive season on sofas of their own.

About A Second Chance, Doubled

What life with A Second Chance, Doubled looks like

A Second Chance, Doubled is a large kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Cardiff Dogs Home / The Rescue Hotel.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting A Second Chance, Doubled, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about A Second Chance, Doubled?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Cardiff Dogs Home / The Rescue Hotel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw A Second Chance, Doubled on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt A Second Chance, Doubled if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Cardiff Dogs Home / The Rescue Hotel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is A Second Chance, Doubled already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if A Second Chance, Doubled isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Cardiff Dogs Home / The Rescue Hotel early rather than rehoming privately; they know A Second Chance, Doubled and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
