Adopt Chess

Mixed Breed Β· Male Β· Young Β· 2 years

Chess arrived with us as a stray and was an incredibly worried and frightened boy. With plenty of TLC, patience and the support of some canine pals, he is really starting to come out of his shell, and his cheeky little personality is beginning to shine through. Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross Chess is looking for a quiet home where he can continue to grow in confidence at his own pace. He would benefit from peaceful walks away from busy roads, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy a good sniff and explore his surroundings. A secure private garden will be essential, along with adopters who are happy to continue supporting him with his house training as he settles into home life. Chess enjoys the company of other dogs and could benefit from sharing his home with a confident canine companion who can help show him the ropes, subject to successful meets at the centre. Once Chess has built a bond with you, he is an incredibly loving boy who adores being in the company of his favourite people. He forms strong relationships and will need someone around for most of the day initially, to help him settle and gradually build his confidence with being left alone. Chess could potentially live with older children aged 14+ who understand his shy nature and are happy to give him space and time when he needs it. He is also beginning to show an interest in toys, and as his confidence grows, we hope to see even more of his playful side emerge! With the right home, plenty of patience and lots of love, Chess has all the potential to blossom into a wonderful companion. If you have the time and understanding to help this special boy continue his journey, we would love to hear from you. About Adopt Chess

What life with Adopt Chess looks like

Adopt Chess is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hope Rescue in Pontyclun.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Adopt Chess, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Adopt Chess?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Adopt Chess on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Adopt Chess if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Hope Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Adopt Chess already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Adopt Chess isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Adopt Chess and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
