Adopt Alja

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 6 months

Alja – an insecure female dog looking for her forever home Country of origin (= current country of residence): Switzerland Country of birth: Bulgaria Weight: currently approx. 8 kg Hello, big world out there! My name is Alja, and just a few days ago I got to travel to Switzerland with my siblings from Bulgaria. In Bulgaria, we were found in the woods with our mom when we were still very tiny. Since then, we’ve been raised at the local animal shelter and, unfortunately, haven’t had the chance to experience much of the world. Now that we’re in Switzerland, all of us are hoping for loving homes. I’m still a bit shy and tend to let my siblings take the lead in new or unfamiliar situations. When I hear strange noises or feel uncertain, I bark to chase away whatever’s worrying me. But once I realize things aren’t so scary after all, I gather all my courage and start exploring—step by careful step. That’s why I’m looking for a home with people who can give me a sense of security and want to discover the world together with me. I’d also really love to attend dog training classes with my new humans to learn the basics of being a good dog. I’m only just getting used to walking on a leash, so it would be a big help if my future home had a secure garden where I could relieve myself safely at first. Before anything else, please read the following information sheet carefully to understand this animal’s specific needs. If you’re interested, please fill out the application form and send it to . Important: Only apply if you’re ready to adopt soon—if you have upcoming vacations, a move, or similar plans, please wait until those are behind you. We want to avoid keeping our animals in the shelter any longer than absolutely necessary.

Alja - unsichere Hündin sucht ihr Zuhause Herkunftsland (=aktuelles Aufenthaltsland): Schweiz Zuchtland (=Geburtsland): Bulgarien Gewicht: aktuell ca. 8kg Hallo grosse Welt da draussen. About Alja

What life with Alja looks like

Alja is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Tierpension Strubeli in Switzerland.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alja, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alja?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Tierpension Strubeli handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alja on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alja if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Tierpension Strubeli will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alja already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alja isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Tierpension Strubeli early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alja and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
