Adopt Lucia

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Lucia - is looking for understanding people Gender: female spayed Country of origin (current place of residence): Switzerland Breeding country (birth country): Romania Lucia was found on the streets in Romania along with her brother as a puppy. When they were collected, they still had old collars, which suggests that they were abandoned. The last 1 ½ years they grew up in the animal shelter in Romania and waited there in vain for a new home. Recently, the two of them traveled to Switzerland with us and now hope to find a loving home here. Because Lucia grew up in a very deprived environment, she needs to learn situations that are everyday for us. She is rather reserved and prefers to flee in situations that are not entirely familiar to her. Initially, she tried to avoid contact with people, but now she is slowly learning that we mean her no harm. She now seeks the company of her trusted people, loves being petted and sometimes also makes play invitations 😊. She has so far shown herself to be very compatible with other dogs and would certainly also be happy with a confident second dog who gives her security and whom she can orient herself towards. She does not yet know the basics of dog training and therefore wants to definitely attend dog training classes with her new humans. For Lucia we are hoping for a home with understanding and loving people who will not pressure her and give her the necessary time to learn everything at her own pace. Therefore, she would like to move into a quieter household without small children. Lucia already knows how to walk on a leash quite well, but it would be beneficial if there was a garden in her new home where she can relieve herself. Please read the following information sheet carefully first to become familiar with the needs of the respective animal species. If you are interested, fill out the application form and send it to . Important: Please only apply if you are also ready for an adoption in a timely manner, so not if you have holidays, a move, or something similar coming up. We want to prevent our protected animals from having to stay in the animal shelter longer than necessary.

About Lucia

What life with Lucia looks like

Lucia is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Tierpension Strubeli in Switzerland.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lucia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lucia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Tierpension Strubeli handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lucia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lucia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Tierpension Strubeli will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lucia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lucia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Tierpension Strubeli early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lucia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
