Adopt Allen

Male · Young · 1 year

Alan, reutje, over 3 months old, will be around 45-50 cm high and will weigh approximately 18-20 kg, male. Background. A woman saw a puppy walking by the side of the road from her car. When she stopped to look, she saw three puppies wandering below the hill among the trash and dense shrubs. She contacted our contact person, who then searched all afternoon for the puppies. She heard them crying but couldn't see them. The next day, she went with two animal welfare officers to search. It was very difficult on the steep hill that ended in a cliff. Eventually, right near the cliff, they saw the puppies. With great risk to their own lives, they managed to catch the puppies. Our contact person immediately took them to the vet. There, the weakened puppies drank a lot of water and received antibiotics and were dewormed. The puppies were taken home where they received intensive care. Now they have gained weight and are feeling well. They can be transferred at the end of June. Unfortunately, the mother dog has not been found. Likely, they were thrown near the trash by the owner of the mother dog. Allen is a bit heavier than his nestmates Tobias, Tristan, and Mina (also on the AAI website). Allen prefers to lie on someone's lap and cuddle. He is a calm pup. However, he enjoys playing with his nestmates and with the other puppies in the shelter.

Alan, reutje, ruim 3 maanden oud, wordt 45-50 cm. hoog en zal ca. 18-20 kilo gaan wegen, buitenland. Achtergrond.

About Allen

What life with Allen looks like

Allen is a large young adult dog waiting at Stichting AAI in Amsterdam.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Allen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Allen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting AAI handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Allen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Allen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting AAI will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Allen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Allen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting AAI early rather than rehoming privately; they know Allen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
