Adopt Sandy

Female · Senior · 9 years

This is Sandy, a Mechelar female dog of about 9 years old. She was found wandering the streets, making our vet estimate her age. Unfortunately, we've never been able to track down the old owner so we're now looking for a new cottage for her. Sandy is a very sweet lady who likes to cuddle with you. She knows a number of commandos and is very inquisitive. When you sit with her, she'd rather lie all the way up against you to cuddle and cuddle with you. Sandy needs to get used to a new environment and new people. Sometimes it can happen that the many stimuli can become too much for her, this can be expressed in redirection. Here Sandy likes to stand outside on the lookout and keep an eye on the yard. So she would like a cottage with a large garden where she can lie outside. Sandy reacts pretty quietly to most dogs here. However, we do not know how She's when she's really on the meadow with another dog. If you are interested in working with Sandy, please fill out her application form below!

About Sandy

What life with Sandy looks like

Sandy is a senior dog waiting at Hokazo in Uden.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sandy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sandy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hokazo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sandy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sandy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hokazo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sandy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sandy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hokazo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sandy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
