An impressive mix—and you can see that not only in his appearance but also in his character. Amadeus is not a beginner’s dog and is looking for an owner with experience, patience, and dedication. Amadeus was given up due to his behavior toward strangers. He finds unfamiliar people extremely exciting. Ideally, he’ll go out of his way to avoid them altogether. If people do come closer, he might become aggressive. Therefore, placement with children is not recommended. Amadeus will feel most secure in a calm, predictable environment with few unexpected encounters. In his young life, Amadeus has had little contact with other dogs. He simply doesn’t yet know how to handle these situations well. From a distance, he barks a lot and pulls toward the other dog (in this case, you’ll need to be firm—45 kg on the other end of the leash requires considerable strength). Up close, if the other dog remains calm, he’ll cautiously make contact—but his tension and excitement remain high. This is currently being actively trained. Outdoors, Amadeus is truly still a work in progress. Due to his insecurity, he quickly becomes overstimulated and is hard to reach during those moments. On a familiar, quiet walking route, however, we see a completely different side of him: there, he can walk calmly alongside you and even listens very well off-leash. This shows just how much potential this young dog has—if only he receives the right guidance. Amadeus clearly missed out on significant socialization and likely doesn’t come from an optimal breeding background. It’s therefore difficult to predict exactly how much his behavior will improve with training. What we do see, though, is that he’s still young, adapts relatively quickly to new people, is food-sensitive, and loves working together. His stress threshold is short, and he gets easily distracted, so training requires patience, clarity, and consistency. For Amadeus, we’re looking for an experienced owner who: Is firmly established and confident Has knowledge of (or experience with) dogs Is willing to invest time and energy in training Lives in a calm, low-stimulation environment (preferably not in a busy residential area) Doesn’t have children at home Upon placement, professional behavioral advice will be provided by HondenCampus, ensuring the new owner receives ongoing support throughout the journey. Amadeus isn’t a “ready-made” dog, but for the right person, he can grow into a loyal, eager-to-learn, and impressive companion. You don’t just choose a dog on a whim; that’s why we have a strict selection process for our shelter dogs. During the initial meeting, a dog won’t be placed. You won’t have access to the kennels because it would stress our dogs—and the kennels are precisely their place of rest. Furthermore, we’d like to meet the entire family, including any dogs already living in the household. At the shelter, you’ll have plenty of time to get acquainted, take walks, and ask questions of the foster family. After a positive first meeting, a second appointment will follow, and further arrangements will be made.
