Amaro

adoption requirements adoption process Adopt now this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Amaro may stay as a grace placement in his foster home! His story: Amaro had great luck and may travel to his foster home in Wassenach in early May. There, he lives in the middle of the forest with other dogs and has a large, soft bed. We hope that Amaro will regain his strength and be able to enjoy a few more beautiful years with lots of love. Amaro is currently the saddest dog in the shelter in Bistrita, Romania… if you look into his eyes, the pain goes straight to your heart… the large white male dog sits broken in his bed and looks only with a blank stare… he does not participate in his surroundings and trembles with stress, fear, insecurity, and total overload. His head is completely covered with scars and we suspect that he was used for illegal dog fights. We saw him on our last visit to the shelter in April 2022. The pictures of him keep us awake and are deeply imprinted in our minds. It is almost unbearable to see him suffer. Amaro is a herding dog mix and will likely show corresponding traits when he settles into his new home. Herding dogs are independent personalities that require a responsible owner to set consequences and empathy and the ability to deal with an intelligent, independent acting dog. They bring many great traits but are not command receivers like hunting dogs. People who already have experience with herding dogs do not want other breeds anymore, as they are very loyal and faithful companions. They have a very calm and gentle nature but are also very vigilant. Our Amaro is not neutered but has a spay chip. He is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas and will bring his EU pet passport with him. Many thanks to Jessica B.! You gave Amaro his name and thus an identity! Amaro means in Spanish "the Loved One," but also "Guardian" and "Victor." As of April 28.

Vielen Dank an Jessica B.! Stand: 28.04.2022

About Amaro

What life with Amaro looks like

Amaro is a extra-large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amaro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amaro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amaro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amaro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amaro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amaro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amaro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
