Amos

Maltese · Male

Mixed breed Amos is seeking a compassionate dog bed The small, neutered Malteser-mixed breed Amos hopes for a happy ending with sensitive people. As a homeless foundling, he made his way into our animal shelter, and his past remains a blank page. We don't know what he has experienced so far. At first, the delicate male dog is quite shy towards new faces. He pulls back cautiously and prefers to observe the surroundings from a safe distance. Amos simply needs a proper introduction phase to shed his initial shyness. Pressure or fussiness is out of place here. Once Amos's trust is earned, he reveals his absolutely golden character. He turns out to be a clingy companion, seeking out the proximity of his people and soaking up every affection and scratch with evident enthusiasm. In a familiar environment, he is an absolute cuddle monster, clearly enjoying the snuggling times with his caregivers. However, when it comes to training, the cute four-legged friend has to start from scratch. Walking on a leash or harness is completely new to him. Since he has no experience with walking, all environmental stimuli outside must be carefully introduced to him. The daily dog chores must be learned by Amos step by step, so his future owners should bring a lot of patience, time, and empathy. We wish for Amos a relaxed, stable environment that provides him with the necessary orientation to safely start a new life.

About Amos

What life with Amos looks like

Amos is a adult maltese dog waiting at Landestierschutzverein Steiermark in Graz.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Landestierschutzverein Steiermark handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Landestierschutzverein Steiermark will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Landestierschutzverein Steiermark early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
