Angiolino

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

July 13, 2018 - It's hard to find the words to express the great sadness felt when a creature dies and it is even harder when life is ended by human cruelty. We imagined you proud and powerful, but as we caressed you, our hearts tightened in a grip of ice when we saw you like this, a shadow asking for help. We believed in you, we hoped with all our strength. You showed signs of improvement and then the collapse. It was too late, if only you had arrived sooner. Sweet Angiolino, you died because of human cruelty, of someone who perhaps one day may have loved you. The only comfort is that you did not die alone, bound to that cursed chain and devoured by larvae. We were not ready, how many dreams we had, how many chats thinking about what your future could have been. Your little heart couldn't hold on and you, great and majestic, spread your wings. We saw you serene, relaxed, there was no longer that suffering that had annihilated you. Now we know you are happy up there among the angels like you. Angiolino, we will never forget you and we guarantee you will get the justice you deserve. From above, protect all the people who in these last days of your life loved you intensely and did everything possible to help you. Fly Angiolino, you left us with so much sadness in our hearts. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who was close to us. July 12, 2018 - In twenty years of volunteering we've seen many things and had many punches to the stomach to process, but the story of Angiolino is one that leaves a mark. The request for help came via private message, with heartbreaking images. These are the stories for which you must stop and try to use reason, you must think and consider how to act, always and only for the animal's benefit. It's not easy. Amid so much indifference, there is also a lot of love, and when real volunteers meet, a human chain is created. We will not tell you about his past, this is Angiolino today as you see him in the photos sent to us. At that exact moment, we activated ourselves to be able to help him. He arrived at our place on Monday night in a coma, covered in worms, fever of 40.5°, full of sores, dehydrated and emaciated, there are reasons why we couldn't publish earlier. Thousands of fleas were removed from him, maybe over a kilo, we have never rescued an animal in such a condition. We should be used to it but despite everything, we are shocked. We are doing everything possible to save him but it will be difficult, his conditions are very serious. We want to give him love and caresses, those he may have never known. We have always thought there is an unknown force above us that protects us, we would like that force to go entirely to Angiolino. We don't know if it will be another blow to our hearts, but we want to try. Angiolino, we want to see you as you were before: the majestic giant with golden eyes!!!! We want to thank the wonderful girls who supported us in this terrible endeavor, we won't mention their names to protect them, wonderful volunteers who silently help those in need. Thanks to those who will support us with medical expenses and those who will donate single-use pads and disinfectants, we need them a lot. Angiolino MUST live.

Grazie a chi ci sosterrà nelle spese mediche e a chi donerà traversine monouso e disinfettanti, ne abbiamo tanta necessità. Angiolino DEVE vivere.

About Angiolino

What life with Angiolino looks like

Angiolino is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at L.I.D.A. Olbia in Olbia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Angiolino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Angiolino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. L.I.D.A. Olbia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Angiolino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Angiolino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — L.I.D.A. Olbia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Angiolino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Angiolino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with L.I.D.A. Olbia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Angiolino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
