Adopt Apollo

English Bulldog · Male · Adult · 5 years

Apollo is a very lively companion who always brings a smile to your face. He loves to thoroughly examine and dismantle stuffed animals, sometimes even doing the same to his beds. He adores eating more than anything else; he can never get enough of treats, chews, or his daily food. He doesn’t always find walks so enjoyable. Sometimes he loves them, and on another day, he’d rather snuggle into his warm blankets. He thinks “training” is overrated from his perspective. Still, it’s important to teach him the basics of doggy ABCs so he can get along well in everyday life. Unfortunately, Apollo has some health issues; his movement apparatus doesn’t always work as he’d like. Sometimes his legs are faster than his head, and he also needs to learn to lift his paws better to move and not shuffle. Additionally, he suffers from food allergies. Apollo can be quite clumsy, and if you’re in his way, he might knock you out of the way with a swing. That’s why he shouldn’t live with children and frail people. He also doesn’t get along well with cats. Other dogs find him interesting on walks, and he likes to observe them from a safe distance. Apollo is currently at the animal shelter Paradiesli. If you’re interested in or have any questions about Apollo, please contact the animal shelter directly.

About Apollo

What life with Apollo looks like

Apollo is a large adult english bulldog dog waiting at Hilf dem Tier in Hilf Dem Tier.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Apollo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Apollo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hilf dem Tier handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Apollo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Apollo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hilf dem Tier will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Apollo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Apollo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hilf dem Tier early rather than rehoming privately; they know Apollo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
