Dusty

English Bulldog · Male · Senior · 12 years

Hometown: Hungary We have a DNA breed determination for this animal. At the age of nearly 6 years, the handsome Dusty was found homeless wandering around with his companion Destiny. Where they used to live and why they suddenly found themselves alone on the road, will probably remain a mystery forever. But like many of their fellow animals, it seems these two wonderful four-legged friends have not had the best of lives so far. Both needed some time to finally enjoy the affection of humans and trust their caretakers. Dusty and Destiny lived together, did well as "partners," but did not particularly like the other fellow animals. Destiny was lucky and found a home in the past few months. Since then, Dusty has been sad and suffering. He first lost his home and now also his best friend! As he has no other dog friends, he longs even more for affection and cuddles from humans. Currently, the grateful Dusty, who is already 10 years old, has more than earned the right to spend his future outside the animal shelter. His weekly highlights, the excursions with the mentors, bring a handful of joy to the active male dog. He savors the moments outside the cage and makes a great effort to do everything right and be well-behaved for his handlers. Dusty is intelligent and curious, but also patient and obedient. When he is out with his mentor alone, he goes very relaxed. When he encounters other dogs, he pulls on the leash. This must also be worked on in the future. For the handsome hound Dusty, we wish for a loving home with responsible and dog-experienced people who are ready to not only care for his beautiful fur but also his wounded soul. With consistent, dog-friendly training, daily walks, and lots of affection, one will win Dusty's heart and have a loyal companion. Dusty lives alone in a cage at the animal shelter in Hungary. We can imagine that experienced dog owners could also offer him the opportunity to spend the future with a well-socialized buddy. Update from 25.9.2024: Dusty gets along well with female companions, is sometimes still a bit effusive, which will certainly decrease with regular routine and when he is tired. Testing with male dogs has not been done. He is still alone in the cage. On 12.02.2025, an Hungarian animal caretaker writes: "Our aging American Staffordshire Terrier Dusty is searching for his dream family! Dusty has been in the animal shelter for 5 years and is a regular participant in mentoring days. He walks very nicely on the leash. He is nice and loves people. A place as a single prince would make him very happy. He should not die in the animal shelter." On 02.10.2025, a voluntary, Hungarian helper writes: "Dusty came to the animal shelter at the age of 6, together with his companion. His companion has now found a home. For five years, Dusty has been waiting for his dream owner to discover him! Dusty is the mentor's favorite, an old good friend. Many mentors have walked with him over the past years. An enthusiastic, loving mentor ensures weekly that Dusty participates in an exciting, varied walk on Saturday mornings. He is an exceptionally loving, friendly, and trusting dog. People-oriented, child-friendly, and full of longing for affection. Even when he waits in the cage, he asks for cuddles at mentor days. He leans against the bars to be pampered. The walks and the love of the mentors are what give Dusty hope. Sad and longing, he looks through the bars of his cage to the gate of the animal shelter and waits and waits..." Since Dusty is a mix, you will need to check the housing conditions in your community regarding their keeping requirements. Dusty is travel-ready. Many heartfelt thanks to Marianne Hauser for taking over the sponsorship.

About Dusty

What life with Dusty looks like

Dusty is a senior english bulldog dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dusty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dusty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dusty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dusty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dusty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dusty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dusty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
