Adopt Apollo

English Bulldog · Male · Adult · 5 years

Apollo had a few escapes as a young pup and kept himself occupied. Unfortunately, there were also incidents with children. That’s why he ended up at our animal shelter, our shelter. Apollo is a very funny companion who always manages to make you smile. He loves to examine stuffed animals in detail and even likes to dismantle them. Sometimes he does the same with his beds. Food is his top priority—he can never get enough of treats, chews, or his daily food. He’s not always thrilled about walks. Sometimes he enjoys them very much, while on other days he’d rather snuggle into his warm blankets. He has a thick skull behind his ears, and he thinks “training” is overrated. Still, it’s important to teach him the basics of dog behavior so he can get along well in everyday life. Unfortunately, Apollo has some health issues. His musculoskeletal system doesn’t always work the way he’d like it to. His legs can be faster than his head, and he still needs to learn to lift his paws better instead of shuffling while walking. Additionally, he suffers from food allergies. Apollo can be quite clumsy. If someone is in his way, he might knock them out of the way with a swing. Therefore, he shouldn’t live with children or frail people. He also doesn’t get along well with cats. On walks, he finds other dogs interesting and likes to observe them from a safe distance. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Apollo

What life with Apollo looks like

Apollo is a medium-sized adult english bulldog dog waiting at Zürcher Tierschutz in Zürich.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Movement coordination issues, food allergies, requires special diet

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Apollo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Apollo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Zürcher Tierschutz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Apollo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Apollo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Zürcher Tierschutz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Apollo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Apollo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Zürcher Tierschutz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Apollo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
