Ares &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Why Ares was surrendered is not fully comprehensible. Family issues undoubtedly played a role. Hopefully, the tough times are now behind Ares, and he is waiting in our care for the right people who will give him a home. Ares is an interested and basically obedient dog. He gets along well with fellow animals and cats. Since he has been in our care waiting for a new home, it has become apparent that Ares sometimes has difficulty processing stimuli. The overload of stimuli can overwhelm him at certain moments, leading him to snap. Therefore, Ares needs dog-experienced people who are willing to address this topic with him. He requires, of course, a lot of patience and understanding. Ares will not be rehomed to families with children at this time. Ares is vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to be rehomed. If you are interested in our dogs and would like to meet them informally, please apply using the button below, and we will get in touch with you as soon as possible. We appreciate your understanding if the processing of your inquiry takes a little longer. We strive to provide a response as soon as possible, but it may happen that we receive many inquiries at once or that our resources are temporarily needed elsewhere.

About Ares &#8211

What life with Ares &#8211 looks like

Ares &#8211 is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzbund Basel Regional.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ares &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ares &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzbund Basel Regional handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ares &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ares &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzbund Basel Regional will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ares &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ares &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzbund Basel Regional early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ares &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
