ARES

German Shepherd · Male · Young · 3 years

Ares, a 10-year-old mixed breed of Kuvasz and German Shepherd, is looking for his forever home. He is friendly, affectionate, and loyal but can be unsure at times. Ares has a strong protective instinct and will defend those he cares about. He needs time to warm up to new people and situations. Leash training is good, and he knows how to behave in the car. With social female dogs who get along with him, Ares gets along well. Basic obedience is present but needs further development. The previous owner reports that Ares dislikes tractors. Ares requires a job and must be mentally and physically stimulated according to his breed mix. He benefits from varied walks, tracking, mental challenges, and games of hide-and-seek. Enough rest time is also important for his wellbeing. Ares needs firm but fair guidance and a confident owner who can set clear rules and keep him engaged intellectually. He's not an ideal dog for beginners. Born in Switzerland, he was given up by his previous owner due to personal reasons. We are looking for a suitable home with active people who have plenty of time and experience with dogs. Experienced herders are welcome. A house or apartment with a securely fenced yard is preferred. He's not suited for a busy environment or an apartment building. Ares can only be placed in a home where he can accompany his owner to work or someone spends a lot of time at home. Children are not suitable. If you're interested, please email us and attach the completed questionnaire for the respective animal species. The questionnaire is available >>> HERE . Do you have questions or need general advice? Call us at Fr. 1.20/Min. from landline (for the benefit of animal welfare ATs).

Rasse: Kuvasz & Schäferhund / schwarz-braun Alter: 10. September 2023 Aktualisiert: 2. About ARES

What life with ARES looks like

ARES is a medium-sized young adult german shepherd dog waiting at Aargauischer Tierschutzverein ATs in Zug (Allenwinden & Neuheim).

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting ARES, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ARES?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aargauischer Tierschutzverein ATs handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ARES on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ARES if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aargauischer Tierschutzverein ATs will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is ARES already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ARES isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aargauischer Tierschutzverein ATs early rather than rehoming privately; they know ARES and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
