Astrid

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 2 years

Astrid was found in a dog pen in a large park in Bucharest. She was all alone there, and even after a long wait, no one came to retrieve the friendly female dog. It seemed that Astrid had been abandoned there. The police were informed, and in August 2024, Astrid came to the animal shelter Odai. No one claimed her at the shelter either, and as expected, she was not registered and did not have a microchip. It’s a shame that Astrid did not receive love and care in her early years, because she is a loving and calm female dog with a very balanced nature and is very friendly. Astrid only got her name at the shelter; we don’t know if she had a name before or what her life was like before being found in the park. Adjusting to life at the shelter is very difficult for Astrid. The many dogs, the loud barking, and the constant confinement in the pen do not suit her well. Although she behaves calmly, it’s clear that she is sad and wishes for a different life. The volunteers at the shelter make a lot of effort and take Astrid to the dog play area every Sunday. At first, she was still somewhat reserved and skeptical, especially because she didn’t know what to expect. But now, she enjoys when someone pays attention to her and can already relax a bit. The more she is engaged with, and the more she is cuddled and stroked, the better she feels. We think that Astrid needs her own time and pace to get used to her people and settle into a new home. Giving her this time will surely result in a loyal and affectionate companion by your side. Astrid already walks well on a leash, and she is also very attentive to the person at the end of the leash. The volunteers at the shelter consider Astrid a very sensitive female dog with a fine sense for people. They feel that Astrid notices when she is loved. These people are very much liked by Astrid, and in general, she has no problems with people, even though she has obviously been disappointed by them so far.

About Astrid

What life with Astrid looks like

Astrid is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Astrid, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Astrid?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Astrid on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Astrid if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Astrid already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Astrid isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Astrid and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
