adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Ayko has found his home! His story: Ayko arrived at his foster home in Munich and is waiting there for his own home! The beautiful Ayko must have had a guardian angel. He was found in Romania with a deep wound on his neck, caused by a chain he was held on. Ayko was quickly treated by a vet and was put back on track until he could travel to his foster home. And Ayko is a living proof that dogs are truly loving and loyal souls. Despite the suffering inflicted upon him by humans, Ayko did not lose his trust in them. He is an incredibly friendly, open, and people-oriented dog. 55 cm of pure joy. He gets along well with other dogs, is not unsettled by barking from other dogs, and walks nicely on a leash with his foster family. He loves to cuddle, is playful, and has already learned a lot in a short time. Ayko adapts well to his surroundings, can relax at home and then be active outside. Ayko is beautiful, with his brown coat, athletic build, and sweet face. His age is estimated to be around 2 years. He has long legs and appears slender and delicate in build. Ayko wishes for a sporty and active family. Because he would love to experience many adventures with his people. After all, there is still so much to catch up on. Still, he should be given as much time as he needs to get used to his new environment at the beginning, before he can really take off. He feels comfortable on the outskirts of Munich – when there is more chaos, it becomes clear that it is too much for him. Therefore, we wish for a rural area for him and no city life. It is hard to say which breeds are mixed into Ayko. It is not out of the question that there are some hound genes, like a German Shepherd. In addition to attending a positively working dog training class and getting physical exercise, one should also try to find out what mental challenges could be suitable for Ayko, such as heeling, sniffing, and searching games. With enough physical and mental exercise, Ayko will surely develop into a great companion. And of course, plenty of cuddle hours should not be missing. Ayko is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas for his new home. His EU pet passport is already in his travel bag. For an adoption fee of 500 Euros, Ayko can be adopted after a positive assessment. He is not neutered. Many thanks to Annette F.! You gave the lively Ayko a name and thus an identity. A big thank you also goes to Torsten W., who took over a monthly sponsorship for Ayko. As of: 21.04.

About Ayko

What life with Ayko looks like

Ayko is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ayko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ayko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ayko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ayko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ayko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ayko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ayko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
