Bambino &#8211

Mixed Breed · Male

Bambino is a one-year-old (as of December 2024) Border Collie—handsome, with an enchanting silvery gaze. A young, athletic dog with playful eyes that curiously look into the world, Bambino should be running and playing in a meadow with a happy family and snuggling on the couch, but instead, Bambino should be tearing apart stuffed animals and stealing shoes at his age… but the lovable young athlete is celebrating Christmas at the animal shelter of our partner “El buen amigo.” Bambino was found wandering alone and tangled through a village. The animal welfare workers had no trouble attracting the friendly male dogs and bringing them to safety—only one thing made the rescue of the clingy teenager difficult, because Bambino absolutely does not like having his collar touched. Initially, Bambino had many reservations about people, shrinking when someone approached, not trusting stroking hands, and avoiding encounters he couldn’t control. Now, he has overcome many fears and, in the experienced hands of the volunteers, has become an attached and eager-to-learn young dog. His aversion to having his collar touched remains, which he clearly communicates. Bambino does not bite, but he snaps back and shows how much it unsettles him. With loving, consistent hands, time, and practice, this is not a big challenge, and a harness could already be a solution for the beginning, until Bambino internalizes that no danger lies in someone touching his neck. However, children living in the house should be old enough to remember Bambino’s problem and not accidentally provoke a misbehavior. The fact that such a young dog has such a panic reaction only suggests that Bambino has had very bad experiences with people. How wonderful and surprising it is, then, how responsive and trusting Bambino is now with the animal rescuers, how quickly his trust has grown, and how much he is willing to forgive the two-leggeds. If you have dog experience, know that a young Border Collie is not a couch potato and mental stimulation is at the top of such a dog’s wish list, that a bundle of energy like Bambino also needs to learn to rest, and you are willing to be creative in fostering and challenging your new family member’s head and muscles, then we are looking forward to hearing from you with Bambino!

DE·Show original

About Bambino &#8211

What life with Bambino &#8211 looks like

Bambino &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bambino &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bambino &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bambino &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bambino &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bambino &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bambino &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bambino &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
