Bano

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Unknown

Hello, my name is Bano. I am a medium-sized dog of the American Staffordshire Terrier breed. I was born around 2015. On May 2nd, 2021, a report arrived at the animal shelter from the Municipal Police about a man bitten by his own dog. Unfortunately, this is true. After being bitten, my owner's friend threw me out of the apartment, I ran all over the stairwell, agitated, dangerous, and terrified. In my mind, I only had an escape plan. It was a terrible day; only after several days of being taken to the animal shelter were there visible changes. My behavior changed completely, my body became stiff - finally, it could rest. Everyone looks through the prism of the person who was attacked by me. But it's worth looking through my eyes, what must have led to such a state. I don't want people to think I'm aggressive or dangerous. I want them to know that I'm not like that on a daily basis. At that time, I felt I had to fight for survival. And this strategy is chosen by dogs when they feel threatened. This is self-defense. What I am today is thanks to many people, those experienced who work with me, as well as those less experienced who simply don't perform provocative actions. According to an assessment conducted by inspectors and animal shelter staff after my securing, it turned out that I once lived with a family with children. And it wasn't due to aggressive behavior that I changed owners. And so I ended up with the wrong person! Now I can say that I want to contact the person I work with, I gladly perform all tasks. Because I feel comfortable. I love going for walks, at the word "walk" my eyebrows lift with excitement :-). Nevertheless, I am very alert during walks, I control every movement of objects. Every rustle, from a distance, I detect the person approaching whom I particularly focus on. I move very well on a loose leash. Various scent activities work very well for me. They bring me great joy. Regarding the selection of companionship with other dogs, unfortunately, it carries too great a risk of biting. Especially since, even when just passing by other dogs, I get very excited. According to what my caregiver says, there is still a lot of work ahead of me, so everything needs the right time. For now, I cannot be adopted. Behavioral work is ongoing.

A tę strategię psy obierają w chwili gdy czują zagrożenie życia. To działanie w samoobronie. Sprawia mi to ogromną radość. W zakresie doboru towarzystwa innych psów no niestety, niesie to za sobą zbyt duże ryzyko pogryzienia. Praca behawioralna trwa.

About Bano

What life with Bano looks like

Bano is a adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Schronisko Zabrze in Zabrze.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bano, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bano?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Zabrze handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bano on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bano if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Zabrze will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bano already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bano isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Zabrze early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bano and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
