Bartley

Dachshund · Unknown · Young · 3 years

BARTLEY – Glos Adoption fee is £450 3 years old Black and tan smooth coat Tweenie size Neutered Bartley is now ready to find his forever home, following the sad death of his owner. He is currently in foster near Gloucester, where he has shown that with patience and kindness he can quickly become a loving addition to the family. Bartley needs a home with an experienced dog owner – he has had a lot of change in a short period of time and he bit a previous foster carer who tried too much too soon. We need a family who can understand and empathise with everything this young dog has been through and who can give him the calm, respectful treatment he needs in order to thrive: we will give behaviourist support and Bartley has shown that he can settle in a short period of time if his boundaries are respected. He is a nice-natured young dog and his current foster says that he is the most loving, intelligent little dog. Bartley is in good health and currently sleeps in his crate or on the sofa in the sitting room, depending on how he feels. He enjoys the company of the foster’s dog and we would love him to be in another home with a friendly dog. He does not like being left alone, so we need his new owners to be prepared to work on this and to understand that they will need to win his trust and let him completely settle; it will not be an instant fix. Outside the house, he can be reactive towards dogs he does not know, again, we feel this is due to the upheaval of his life this year as in the home he has shown he has good social skills with the other resident dog. About Bartley

What life with Bartley looks like

Bartley is a young adult dachshund dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bartley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bartley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bartley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bartley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bartley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bartley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bartley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
