Bengala

Mixed Breed · Unknown

The exceptionally beautiful Galgo girl Bengala, with her stunningly beautiful brindle (tiger-like) coat, her large nose, her loving eyes, and her impressive size, truly does justice to her wonderful breed. In terms of character, she will simply delight everyone—both those who are already Galgo enthusiasts and those who are yet to become one. Bengala is highly people-oriented, affectionate, intelligent, playful, and extremely social. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs as well as with cats. When Bengala plays, it becomes abundantly clear just how sociable and sensitive she is. For instance, she joyfully swings a rope around herself in her mouth—not aggressively, but with great feeling. She’ll bring the rope over to another dog that initially shows little interest. She’ll place the rope gently in front of him and then walk away—a true gift. Then she’ll return to him, dancing merrily, encouraging him to take the rope and play along with her. All of this highlights her uniquely Galgo-esque, quirky side. She doesn’t fling the rope aggressively; instead, she does so with great cheerfulness, running around like a little clown with it. Bengala will have tremendous fun with her future humans and bring them so much joy—provided that they, too, love playing and are just as enthusiastic and open-hearted as this outgoing and gentle Bengala. We hope that through this journey we’ll find Bengala’s soulmates and playmates (it’s perfectly fine if there are several people involved—for example, a family with older children already). What we know about Bengala’s past is very limited. She was found on the outskirts of town by an animal-loving family and initially taken home with them. Bengala was very thin and extremely hungry. The animal lovers first had to figure out where they could safely place her. This family already had cats, with whom the dog got along splendidly. Since they couldn’t keep the Galgo themselves, they brought her to the animal shelter. But now, her journey is set to continue—from there... into a lovely, perfect forever home. Bengala is looking for people who will love her wholeheartedly (just as she’ll love them in return), who will take her for walks, who’ll let her accompany them, who’ll play with her, and who’ll cuddle with her. Her new humans should also be happy to teach her—with patience, understanding, without pressure, and with loving consistency—certain things that are essential for a relaxed and harmonious life together. This canine treasure would be thrilled with a cozy sofa where she could snuggle up in a quiet corner... but a soft, comfortable dog bed would also be just right. If you’ve already felt a spark and would like to give this wonderful and lovable dog a perfect home, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with her.

DE·Show original

About Bengala

What life with Bengala looks like

Bengala is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bengala, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bengala?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bengala on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bengala if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bengala already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bengala isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bengala and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
