Adopt Bigio

Unknown · Adult · 7 years

Update April 2026 Bigio, our handsome white prince in a longhaired coat, was very happy about our visit to the animal shelter. He thoroughly enjoyed the attention and care he received. Patience allowed him to have his eyes cleaned and he found it nice to have his somewhat messy fur thoroughly brushed. Most of all, he was delighted to be cuddled and petted. After this wellness treatment, Bigio shone in full beauty. The seven-year-old Bigio is a real eye-pleasure and a wonderful tomcat with character. He is very relaxed and is not stressed by his fellow residents in the enclosure. When he needs his peace, he retreats into one of the caves in the scratching post. Most of the time, however, you can find him lying right by the entrance so he can watch a bit of the action outside in the cat colony. Despite his diagnosed kidney disease, Bigio's overall condition has improved significantly since autumn. He has a substantial weight and appears very healthy and fit, apart from his watery eyes. He looks much more relaxed and deals patiently and peacefully with his fellow cats. Bigio is the ideal tomcat for experienced cat people who are looking for a calm companion. One must be able to read Bigio a little, then he clearly shows when a cuddling session is over. As a longhaired tomcat, he needs regular grooming to prevent matting. Since Bigio loves brushing, this is no problem. Also, his eyes need to be cleaned regularly. He should be fed kidney food so that his values can remain in a good range for a long time. I wish for Bigio a home without small children. In the area of a protected garden, he can also go outdoors. As a longhaired prince and due to his kidney disease, he should not move out into the wide world. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Bigio

What life with Bigio looks like

Bigio is a adult cat waiting at PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bigio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bigio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bigio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bigio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bigio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bigio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bigio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
