Adopt Bitzi

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 13 years

Bitzi has been through a lot, and now she just wants to feel at home. Bitzi's life story is touching and has the potential to end with a big happy ending. The sweet Bitzi was lucky enough to live as a stray in Athens for over 10 years, tolerated and even cared for by the people there. Her base was a café. There she was a welcome guest. Besides cuddles, there was also delicious food and a sunny spot to sleep. But unfortunately, this café had to close and Bitzi's care was no longer secured. A kind neighbor took Bitzi in and now she lives with her in an apartment. Unfortunately, this is not a long-term solution, because Bitzi has to be alone all day. This is bad for her, because she is used to the hustle and bustle and misses the people. Now Bitzi is looking for a final place in her old age, where she can enjoy her golden years in peace, but also right in the middle of her people. Bitzi is a confident, balanced female dog who is not easily disturbed. She is a people dog. She absorbs their presence and affection like a sponge. Always loyal by their side, no matter what comes. Animal friends are not so important to Bitzi, although she is not unfriendly, but simply uninterested. She ignores cats, finds small dogs nice, and large dogs are not really her thing. Bitzi has already experienced and mastered a lot in her life so far. She is not easily disturbed. Her demands are not very high. Rather, she does not want to have to constantly adapt to new environments and people in her old age. She is now looking for her last, permanent station. For Bitzi we wish a loving home where she is truly spoiled. She loves walks and excursions in nature. Bitzi has no problem with an only dog, as long as it is smaller, but she would also like to be the only princess.

Immer treu an deren Seite, mag kommen was will.

About Bitzi

What life with Bitzi looks like

Bitzi is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina in Berlin.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bitzi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bitzi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bitzi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bitzi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bitzi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bitzi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bitzi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
