Blacky

Boston Terrier · Male · Senior · 12 years

Blacky is a Boston Terrier who was seized due to neglect. He arrived at the shelter extremely thin and undernourished, but has since been assigned to the shelter so we can find him a home where he will receive proper care and love. Blacky is an energetic dog with plenty of life in him. He eagerly explores new spaces and loves playing with toys. When you throw his toys away, he runs happily after them, taking them back into his bed or chair. He enjoys eating and especially likes meat treats. He knows SIT and SHOW AND TELL, and also enjoys sniffing games. We have noticed that he continues to experience problems with digestion and bowel movements. His intestines are extremely sensitive, and we are still investigating the cause of this issue and looking for people who can provide further care in this regard. We are looking for a home for Blacky with a house and garden, possibly with children over 12 years old. Are you interested in Blacky?

About Blacky

What life with Blacky looks like

Blacky is a small senior boston terrier dog waiting at Dierenasiel Genk in Genk.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Blacky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Blacky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenasiel Genk handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Blacky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Blacky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenasiel Genk will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Blacky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Blacky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenasiel Genk early rather than rehoming privately; they know Blacky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
