Bo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

I am very shy but affectionate with people and my dog companions. Date of birth: 11.2016 size: medium My life story: me and my three siblings were taken in by one of the volunteers from the animal rescue association in the middle of the bush, in the area of Barão de São João, in 2017, when we were only three months old. We were taken to the shelter, but we were very confused and scared, we never fully trusted people. We were always suspicious and shy dogs even though, at the shelter, no one ever treated us badly. My temperament: despite being very shy, they always said I was the least shy of the siblings. Recently two of my siblings died from illness and I ended up feeling a bit alone. I like being with other dogs, but being with people and trusting them is difficult for me. Now I am a bit better because I spent some time at the home of a volunteer who "socialized" me. I still don't fully trust people, but they say I am better and even walk on a leash, which for many years did not happen (not even had a collar). I would like to have a home because I liked being at the volunteer's house that socialized me, but I would like to have other dogs to live with because I get along well with other dogs.

About Bo

What life with Bo looks like

Bo is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Cadela Carlota & Companhia in Portugal.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Cadela Carlota & Companhia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Cadela Carlota & Companhia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Cadela Carlota & Companhia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
