Adopt Bob

Male · Adult · 6 years

Hi, I'm Bob. A cute little dog with a backpack and a soft heart. Due to certain circumstances, it wasn't possible for me to stay at home anymore between me and my masters, and that's why I ended up at DOA. I'm really a wonderful little dog, but sometimes I'm also a bit unsure. Big things like the vacuum cleaner, children, and cats can be a bit exciting for me. Honestly, I'd rather just run away from them. Sometimes I also find it a bit scary to go for walks outside, especially if there's thunder or loud bangs. Then I get really panicky and I just want to run to a safe place. That's why I'm looking for someone who can calmly guide me and understand that I'm not always as brave as I appear. What I do really love, though, are people. I get so happy with them. I like to lie all day long snuggled up to you or on your lap. Bringing a ball or playing frantically doesn't really matter to me. Give me a quiet spot close to my person. I sometimes find other dogs fun to play with, but I'm also selective. Not every dog is automatically my best friend. I do have a sort of user manual. It's just that I find it hard to really relax at home. It's as if I'm always "on." If I hear a sound outside, I bark. If I see or hear something on TV, I also bark. Actually, many small triggers can cause me to react. So I can bark a lot at home, and that's something my new masters will need to work on with me. I'm therefore looking for a quiet and patient home without too much hustle and bustle. People who understand that I need time to relax and who want to help me find more trust and calm. Because behind all my uncertainty, there's a whole loving snuggly butt that desperately wants to be with their people.

About Bob

What life with Bob looks like

Bob is a small adult dog waiting at DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam in Amsterdam.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bob, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bob?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bob on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bob if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bob already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bob isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bob and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
