Bongo

Mixed Breed Cat · Male

I moved to the cat house at Hallein Animal Shelter and am trying to get settled in. Everything is new, everything smells different, everything works differently than what I was used to. I observe a lot and need a moment to warm up. My previous life was mostly spent indoors, I knew every corner, my favorite spots and the people who belonged to me. It was quiet, warm and safe - just as I like it. Sometimes I was allowed into the garden, which I found quite exciting - a few birds, a few butterflies, fresh air, wonderful. So I'm not one of those who just wants to lie on the couch and know nothing - a little bit of nature is fine, but I don't need big excursions - a safe environment is enough for me. Once I have gained trust, I am a totally cuddly cat, then I like to join in, lie down nearby and enjoy the petting and undivided attention. I get along well with other cats, I also know dogs, I'm not a difficult roommate, rather quiet and uncomplicated as long as you give me time. I am neutered, vaccinated and dewormed and therefore ready for a new home. What I miss now is a place where I can arrive again - this time forever.

DE·Show original

About Bongo

What life with Bongo looks like

Bongo is a large adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Tierheim Hallein in Hallein.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bongo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bongo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hallein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bongo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bongo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hallein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bongo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bongo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hallein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bongo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
