Bonnie is a lively and cheerful little lady. Bonnie loves people, and her favorite pastime is snuggling up in someone's lap for pets. Playing is also fun, but if you have to choose between a toy or a lap, Bonnie will probably choose the latter. Although Bonnie is kind by nature, she also has a proud side. Bonnie knows what she wants and what she doesn't like, and she knows how to show it. If Bonnie feels that her own space is not respected, she will let you know. Her strong will is evident, for example, when she is treated - Bonnie is a bit annoyed when it comes to grooming procedures such as nail clipping. It is important for the new home to learn to read Bonnie's gestures, respect her boundaries, and practice handling on Bonnie's terms. While Bonnie has not been fully house-trained while at HESY, she has mostly managed to hold it in if she has been able to go outside first thing in the morning. Sometimes she may pee on herself if she gets very excited, so joyful pees when a person arrives home are possible. Bonnie has walked nicely on a leash, but sometimes reacts to passing dogs by barking. She has gotten along with other dogs at HESY, but when she gets excited, she may jump or bark at them, which can annoy other dogs. Bonnie could leave either as the only dog in her family or as a companion to a male dog, if the chemistry is right. Bonnie would fit into many different living arrangements. While she has not been very prone to barking while at HESY, she could probably adapt to apartment living as well. Bonnie could also fit into a family with children, as long as the encounters are safe with an adult present, and the children know how to respect the dog's space.
