Adopt Boy

Podenco · Male · Young · 3 years

Boy has been in our care for over 2 months now. At first, he was a bit hyper and would stick to our legs, never taking his eyes off us. Although he stood by us wagging his tail friendly, one could sense his inner insecurity. From the start, he sleeps through the night and is house-trained. Outdoors, it’s clear that he’s a keen observer at the end of the leash, but his prey drive is manageable, and he walks well on the lead. He doesn’t react to joggers, bikers, or walkers. With Gudelis, he shows his obedient side. Driving is no problem! He’s very social with other dogs but tends to orient himself more towards his people. I think with lots of love, time, and training, this fellow will become a wonderful and faithful companion who fits well with a family, couple, or single person. He can go anywhere because he approaches everything and everyone with openness and without fear. Since he’s familiar with our daily routine, he now goes to bed on his own. It would be wonderful if he could finally find the right people to build a great relationship with. He could also be taken to the office. As long as he’s allowed to be there! Boy was rescued from the street by his previous owner. At that time, he had several injuries, some severe, caused by attacks from other dogs. Unfortunately, his owner is seriously ill and can no longer take care of Boy. When he arrived in Melampo, he was in good condition but had several scars on his body from the injuries he sustained during the rescue. Additionally, we noticed that his right front paw has an old, improperly healed fracture that has led to a slight misalignment. However, this injury does not affect him: Boy can run, jump, and walk normally. Boy is a very affectionate, grateful, and extremely well-mannered dog. From the very beginning, he showed great openness and trust towards people without any fears. He loves human contact. Boy is obedient and has a good nature. When out on a walk with the other dogs, he shows great socialization and lives problem-free with both male and female dogs. He walks well on the lead and rides in the car without a problem. In his previous home, he lived with cats. However, he hunts cats he encounters outdoors. At the vet, he tested negative for Mediterranean diseases. Boy wishes to find a home with people who appreciate his good character. He’s familiar with life in a household and will surely settle in with love and a bit of patience. Please inform yourself about the Podenco breed if you’re interested in Boy. All the best, dear Boy!

Alles Gute lieber Boy!

About Boy

What life with Boy looks like

Boy is a young adult podenco dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Boy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Boy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Boy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Boy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Boy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Boy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Boy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
