Calypso

Mixed Breed Cat · Male · Kitten · 3 months

Calypso seeks his fortune 🍀 The approximately 3-month-old Calypso came to us as a foundling and is now waiting to find his own family. He is a lively, playful and cuddly cat who wants to discover the world in a way that is appropriate for his age. Calypso is a Scottish Fold mix. The Scottish Fold is considered a cruel breeding due to a hereditary cartilage and bone disease. This genetic predisposition can also be present in hybrids and can lead to health restrictions such as painful changes to joints and bones over the course of life. Future owners should be aware that this can result in regular veterinary check-ups and potentially higher treatment costs. We wish for Calypso a responsible home with people who are aware of this special feature and are willing to lovingly accompany him throughout his life and provide him with the best possible medical care if needed. If Calypso has won your heart and you would like to give him a caring home, we look forward to your message.

About Calypso

What life with Calypso looks like

Calypso is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat cat waiting at Landestierschutzverein Steiermark in Graz.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Calypso, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Calypso?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Landestierschutzverein Steiermark handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Calypso on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Calypso if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Landestierschutzverein Steiermark will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Calypso already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Calypso isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Landestierschutzverein Steiermark early rather than rehoming privately; they know Calypso and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
