Carlos

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Carlos could live with children aged 14+. He could potentially live with other cats and is looking for an indoor-only environment. Carlos is a super sweet and sensitive lad who initially found adjusting to the shelter environment quite difficult. When he first arrived, he spent most of his time hiding away and was worried about interacting with our staff. However, since being moved to a quieter area of our cattery, he has totally come out of his shell and is now like a different cat! He now runs to greet our staff and volunteers and loves getting as much fuss as possible – he will often squeeze himself onto the same seat as his human friends – even if there isn’t much room! Now that he’s feeling more confident, he loves to be on our laps for a cuddle getting attention – he’s a super affectionate little chap! He also loves his treats – particularly Dreamies! Although Carlos has made great progress in our care, he does still remain easily spooked with any sudden sounds or movement and so he would be best suited to a calm and quiet home where he can really let his guard down and feel safe and secure. Carlos was heartbreakingly abandoned at the shelter and so we have no background information on his previous life, however – due to how well he progressed once moved to a more quiet and secluded area of our cattery, we suspect he has previously been an indoor-only cat and so feel he would be best suited to this environment again with his new family. Carlos was abandoned at the shelter with another cat who we suspect he has lived with previously. Although Carlos seemed keen to interact, this wasn’t reciprocated by his companion, but we feel that Carlos could potentially live with another feline friend in his forever home. This handsome lad has been such a brave boy despite the tough time he’s had recently. He has so much love to give and is just desperate to be loved by his human friends in return. We may not know anything about his previous life, but we do know that he deserves to be spoilt rotten in his next chapter, where he can know the safety and security of a true forever home.

About Carlos

What life with Carlos looks like

Carlos is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Carlos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Carlos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Carlos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Carlos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Carlos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Carlos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Carlos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
