Carlos

Male · Adult · 5 years

Our whirlwind Carlos originally comes from Spain and has been at our animal shelter for a year now. To be honest, we simply can't understand why he hasn't yet found a suitable family. Carlos is an exceptionally people-oriented male dog who thoroughly enjoys being close to his caregivers. In his previous home, he lacked both proper training and sufficient mental and physical stimulation—precisely because of these shortcomings, everyday life at the shelter is quite challenging for him. Yet, in the time he's been here, Carlos has already learned quite a bit and proves to be a wonderful companion in daily life when given adequate physical and mental enrichment: Carlos especially loves spending time outdoors with his humans and adores long hikes. When he has the chance to channel his energy in a meaningful way, he becomes a pleasantly relaxed and calm dog afterward. He handles car rides with ease, and even visits to restaurants are no problem for him—he can wait patiently and calmly until it's time to continue. We're looking for an active home for Carlos, one where his people enjoy shared activities while also providing him with the necessary peace and clear structure. Carlos is an intelligent dog who loves working together with his humans and delights in every joint activity. Due to his breed, Carlos has a strong prey drive and therefore shouldn't be placed with cats or other small animals. With other dogs, it all depends on mutual compatibility. If you're looking for an active, easygoing companion for everyday life and adventures, you absolutely should get to know Carlos!

DE·Show original

About Carlos

What life with Carlos looks like

Carlos is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Tierheim Wiesbaden in Wiesbaden.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: High energy dog with strong hunting drive, needs consistent training and mental stimulation

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Carlos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Carlos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wiesbaden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Carlos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Carlos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wiesbaden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Carlos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Carlos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wiesbaden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Carlos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
