Adopt CASPER

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Estimated birth date: January 2024 Brief info: still anxious and insecure, but also curious, intelligent, and athletic The male dog CASPER, born in January 2024, was wandering around an autobahn service station in late December 2025. The landlord fortunately contacted the animal shelter, and immediately two team members set out to secure the very anxious male dog, which they managed only due to their experience. In the shelter, CASPER initially only hid in his hut for a while and when someone approached, he trembled all over and even peed out of fear. One can only imagine what the poor fellow has gone through in his previous life. So, caregiver Andi took a special interest in him and worked patiently to earn his trust. After some time, even the other caregivers can now take CASPER for walks. Of course, he is still very insecure and fearful, but he has made such great progress that one gets the impression he is slowly beginning to enjoy even the small excursions. But it is still a long way to go and requires much more practice and getting used to different situations. Compatibility with other animals has not yet been tested for CASPER. Such a test will be conducted soon. Now we are looking for sensitive and sovereign people with solid dog experience who can give the heart-warming CASPER the necessary time to get used to everything step by step and build trust, and also provide him with the necessary security. Patience and calm are also needed in dog training to avoid frightening him with too high expectations. But we often see how very anxious dogs become trusting and lively fur babies with the "right" people. This is what we also wish for the wonderful CASPER. Breed-wise, he will surely also enjoy appropriate physical and mental exertion later. CASPER will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and come with an EU pet passport to his new home. Has this wonderful young fellow wormed his way into your heart? Then we look forward to your message!

About CASPER

What life with CASPER looks like

CASPER is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenretter Ungarn in Pfotenretter.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting CASPER, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about CASPER?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenretter Ungarn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw CASPER on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt CASPER if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenretter Ungarn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is CASPER already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if CASPER isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenretter Ungarn early rather than rehoming privately; they know CASPER and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
