Cayo

adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Cayo can travel directly to his final home! His story: The wonderful Cayo is a handsome, young male dog with white fur and striking, long-standing ears that give him a unique expression! At first, he was very shy – he would curiously approach the fence, but as soon as someone tried to touch him, he would retreat to his hut. But fortunately, Cayo has already adapted a bit to the new situation and made great progress. Slowly, he is letting his mistrust fade away and now also enjoys cuddles with his trusted people. With strangers, he can still be shy at first, but he learns quickly to trust when met with patience and calm. At one year old, Cayo is in the middle of puberty – a phase where young dogs often test their limits and sometimes seem to forget what they have already learned. His new family should be prepared to guide him through this exciting time with patience and positive reinforcement. Clear structures, consistent but loving leadership, and perhaps a visit to a positively working dog training class will help him develop into a confident companion. For Cayo, we are looking for a home that gives him security and shows him that he can rely on his people. If you enjoy working with a slightly cautious but trusting dog and seeing him flourish, you will gain a loyal friend for life with Cayo. With a nice medium size of about 50 cm and 18-20 kg, he has the perfect size for all adventures. He is looking forward to beautiful walks and long cuddle hours in his new home. Cayo travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He possesses an EU pet passport and can travel after a positive health check. Do you want to give Cayo the chance at a loving home and shower him with lots of love? A big thank you goes to Claudia M., who gave Cayo the opportunity to start anew with his name! Stand: 12.03.

Stand: 12.03.2025

About Cayo

What life with Cayo looks like

Cayo is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cayo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cayo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cayo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cayo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cayo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cayo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cayo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
