Oscar

Labrador Retriever · Male · Young · 3 years

This gorgeous boy came to us after his previous owners were unable to meet his needs. He has become a firm favourite here at the home, his cheeky personality balancing his sweet and loving nature to produce just the perfect boy! Oscar loves his people so much he worries when he is alone so will be looking for a lovely family that won't need to leave him for too long. He is so affectionate he just wants to be your shadow! He is a young boy with plenty of energy! Alongside his walks he may even benefit from extra curriculum activities like agility or scent work. When spending time with his handlers after his exercise however, he quickly settles and is a relaxed and laid back boy. He loves both people and dogs, a social butterfly happy to meet and greet anyone he sees and walk alongside his doggy pals or play with them through a barrier in our enclosed areas. Staff are here to ensure the animals find homes which suit their needs. Most animals in our care have not had the best start in life and may require special care or training. We will assess your experience and assist you in finding the right pet for your home. Although we want to start their new life with you as quickly as possible, our re-homing process can take a few weeks from start to finish. The process is as follows:

About Oscar

What life with Oscar looks like

Oscar is a medium-sized young adult labrador retriever dog waiting at RSPCA Danaher Animal Home in Braintree.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Oscar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Oscar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Danaher Animal Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Oscar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Oscar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Danaher Animal Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Oscar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Oscar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Danaher Animal Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Oscar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
