Adopt Chiqui

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

(with videos) Update June 2025: Linchen has now lived about four months in her foster family. She has settled in well there, integrating very well into the mixed dog group living there, and showing herself to be relaxed and happy. Finding the right people for Linchen proves a bit more complicated. She is a not too small and not too large female dog with the appearance of a supposed city park mouse, but the character of a hearty, active, and still very playful hunting dog. Long walks in nature, tracking and following wild signs with her ears, nose, and eyes, and occasionally running around with one of the dogs from her current dog group make Linchen happy. In the garden, she relaxes or runs and plays with her Bodeguero buddy Tonín, and extended cuddles with her foster mommies make her forget any doubts and worries. That she has built this trust is a great progress, as Linchen’s character is largely dominated by her skepticism towards people outside her comfort zone. In her previous life, she likely had to learn to mistrust everyone and expect nothing good. Encounters with other people, whether on walks or during home visits, clearly stress Linchen, and she avoids any closer acquaintances, retreating to her place at home or hiding behind her dog buddies or her foster mommies during walks, barking when her comfort zone is breached. As soon as she deems the threatening situation over, she comes alive and, relieved and to reduce stress, invites her dog buddies to play. We are looking for a home for Linchen in a quiet suburban area, in the green or rural countryside, with its own enclosed garden, and a happy, playful, relaxed, and unexcited dog buddy with people who have experience with dogs. Linchen should be approached with attentiveness, care, friendliness, and confidence. People who enjoy nature, walks in the woods, and across the fields. Potential owners for Linchen should look beyond her cute appearance and be enthusiastic about the hearty, active, and nature-loving female dog.

About Chiqui

What life with Chiqui looks like

Chiqui is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at TS Fellwechsel e.V. in Varel /nur Vereinssitz, kein Tierheim vor Ort.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chiqui, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chiqui?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. TS Fellwechsel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chiqui on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chiqui if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — TS Fellwechsel e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chiqui already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chiqui isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with TS Fellwechsel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chiqui and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
