Adopt Choco

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Choco is searching for a dog friend's home, but Chocosta is not currently taking any more inquiries. Several inquiries have come in, and the home candidates are now being reviewed. Thank you to all those who have offered a home! A young Labrador girl, Choco, is searching for a new home. Choco is by nature friendly but can be wary of new people. When she arrived at her foster home, she was wild and explored everything, clung closely to people even with treats. Over time, the treats began to interest her and she started to explore the handler's surroundings. She walks calmly in a harness, doesn't pull or tug at other dogs. Transport is fine, it can be a little tense at the start of the journey but it's not severe or scary. She gets along with other dogs, having lived in a larger kennel before. In her new home, there should be a social, well-adjusted dog from which Choco can learn and get support for different situations. She may get anxious in some situations, need encouragement, and whine when the situation becomes clear. Chocosta had difficulties getting up and making her way to the bathroom, and the need to make her way to the bathroom seemed a bit challenging. Choco was X-rayed, and in the found litter, there were vertebral changes, Chocola was given a short-term corticosteroid injection, and this has helped with Chocola's mobility. The use of the corticosteroid is recommended to be used no more than once a month. Thanks to the medication, Choco can now move normally and the climb to the bathroom also goes smoothly. Choco has re-adjusted well in her foster home, she bounces with joy and has a playful attitude. Before, Choco was unsure about the offered bed and didn't quite know what to do with it. Without a foster home, Choco was never truly alone, there was always a dog companion, but the girl has never caused trouble. When moving to a new home, she may exhibit different behavior until the dog settles into the new home. Chocola is being sought a home from a peaceful neighborhood. From her current home, it is expected that commitment to the dog's future veterinary visits will be given, with the help of the treatment, the dog can live a long and happy dog life. Choco is clean indoors, and the girl can be introduced to Choco in a mutually agreed manner in Jämsä.

About Choco

What life with Choco looks like

Choco is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Rekku Rescue ry in Helsinki.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Frequently asked

Adopting Choco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Choco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Rekku Rescue ry handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Choco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Choco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Rekku Rescue ry will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Choco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Choco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Rekku Rescue ry early rather than rehoming privately; they know Choco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
