Choco

Mixed Breed · Male

Choco is a charming mix of Labrador and German short-haired pointer, making the playful two-year-old (as of 05/2023) a dog with cuddling qualities. He is playful, gets along very well with other dogs, and Choco even lived calmly with a cat for several weeks in a foster home. Choco is also an "Everybody's Darling" at the animal shelter, and his breed-specific cookie affinity always brings a wide smile to our partners in Seville during their daily, very careful pocket checks. So how did a sweetie like Choco end up at the animal shelter? Well, his story is that of thousands of dogs in Spain. The fantastic, still very young male dog was walking alone in a village. Sad, he searched the streets for food scraps in the trash cans. A young lady met Choco while she was walking her own dog. The friendly mixed breed apparently has a good nose for nice people and simply joined the two. When his rescuer arrived home, she couldn't bring herself to leave her new friend standing outside and took him with her. In this hospitable house, Choco stayed until a place was found for him at Arca Sevilla - where he is now waiting to find fans. Upon Choco's intake, the experienced animal welfare workers immediately noticed that someone had cut the microchip out of the playful springer's shoulder - a clear indication that Choco was discarded by a hunter. Although the new animal protection law largely excludes working dogs from any punishment for everyday mistreatment, abandoning animals is now actually punished - as it is bad for tourism, the street view and a danger to other livestock ... Choco is a funny, clever and extremely cheerful dog who is more than ready to start a life as a beloved family dog. If you like to explore the area with your best friend, know how to play fetch, if you perhaps even dream of a career in the dog rescue team or are able to hide cookies in the garden, if you want to save on heating costs with a heat pack on four paws and have already hopelessly fallen in love with Choco, then we look forward to hearing from you soon.

DE·Show original

About Choco

What life with Choco looks like

Choco is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Choco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Choco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Choco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Choco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Choco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Choco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Choco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
