Adopt Chrissie

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

The shy Chrissie came from the well-known Smeura animal shelter in Romania, which is one of the largest in the world. There alone, around 1,600 puppies are waiting for their adoption. Chrissie is one of the few lucky ones who were allowed to travel. Unfortunately, the insecure puppy was not adopted by us, so Chrissie has since grown up and is still waiting for "her" people! The beautiful female dog is very reserved with people and needs a lot of time to trust. She is very oriented towards her fellow animals, which is why we only want to place her as a second dog. The young female dog is afraid of people she encounters on walks and is easily stressed by environmental stimuli. However, when she feels safe or unobserved, she plays and behaves age-appropriately. Since Chrissie has never been in a house, she still has a lot to learn. A confident fellow animal by her side would give her a lot of security. Chrissie must learn at her own pace and should approach "her" people on her own initiative – she should not be pressured into anything. Every new step should be gently introduced to her so that the sensitive female dog is not overwhelmed in new situations. Children should not be part of her future family. We are looking for a rural home with active people who have dog experience, are willing to adopt an anxious dog, have plenty of time, and enjoy being outdoors in nature. A secure yard must be escape-proof, and Chrissie's people should be able to live with the fact that Chrissie will never be housebroken. If she falls into panic, her first mode is "flight." The person gives her no adequate security. A confident only dog should wait for Chrissie in the home and explain the world to her in dog language.

About Chrissie

What life with Chrissie looks like

Chrissie is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Chrissie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Chrissie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Chrissie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Chrissie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Chrissie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Chrissie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Chrissie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
