Comandante

Male · Adult · 5 years

Photos and possibly video: August 2018. It’s hard to believe, but the mom of the babies and thus the partner of Comandante is Rasa, much smaller, but currently holding the spot at the Perrera. The two are together in the run, even overnight, and runs are not free. Comandante is a sensitive dog, so he misses his children. And now, Rasa is his confidante. He comes right up to the fence, is friendly, and enjoys the cuddles. His right ear is swollen and hard; it’s assumed that he has what’s known as a “blutohr” due to many ear infections. This still needs to be further examined. We will report back. 15.06.2018 Comandante came to the Perrera with his babies, he is very sad to be separated from them. He is a very emotional dog who hasn’t had much good in his life. But he still likes people; with other dogs, he is only conditionally compatible. Comandante is a herding dog, and we are therefore looking for people who are familiar with these special dogs, who can properly engage and react to the often sensitive and stubborn ones. If you are such a person, you can’t imagine life without such a companion. I hope we find a home for him soon. We will report back.

About Comandante

What life with Comandante looks like

Comandante is a small adult dog waiting at Tierhilfe Arme Pfoten in Arme Pfoten.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Comandante, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Comandante?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Arme Pfoten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Comandante on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Comandante if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Arme Pfoten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Comandante already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Comandante isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Arme Pfoten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Comandante and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
