Cookie

Dachshund · Unknown · Adult · 4 years

Cookie Adoption fee is £450 Cheshire • 4 years old • Male, miniature dachshund • Chocolate dapple, smooth coat • Not neutered Cookie is a handsome little boy who enjoys exploring, having a good sniff around and spending time with the people he knows and trusts. He is affectionate with his family and is looking for a calm new home with someone who can give him the time and patience he needs to settle. Cookie currently lives with another dachshund, but their relationship has become increasingly difficult and he is now looking for a home where he can be the only pet. Cookie can be worried by unfamiliar people and dogs, particularly when they come into his space or approach him too closely. He is much more comfortable when given time and space and will need a family who are happy to let him build trust at his own pace. He can also be uncomfortable with handling at times. His new family should be comfortable using a muzzle if needed. We will provide behaviourist support to help Cookie settle successfully into his new home. Cookie is crate trained and would benefit from a regular, balanced routine with plenty of companionship, appropriate exercise and enrichment. He is looking for a family who are around most of the time and can give him the consistency and stability he needs. His new family should expect to meet him a couple of times and be comfortable taking introductions slowly. Cookie has some skin sensitivities which are currently managed with a prescribed diet. Further information about his health and ongoing needs will be discussed with suitable applicants. With the right home, patience and understanding, we hope Cookie can continue to build his confidence and enjoy a calmer, more settled life. Requirements in a home for Cookie • A home where someone is around most of the time • Adult-only home with no children or regular child visitors • Must be the only pet • Secure garden essential • A quiet home without frequent visitors • Must be prepared to work closely with our behaviourist and follow their guidance to help ensure Cookie settles successfully into his new home. About Cookie

What life with Cookie looks like

Cookie is an adult dachshund dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cookie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cookie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cookie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cookie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Cookie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cookie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cookie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
