30.12.2015 - Today he was petted, cuddled, he needs so much affection and must have taken so many blows, when you reach out to pet him he flattens himself!!!! He is a dog that needs affection and will become very sweet, he is very scared. How much has he gone through. He was considered as an old object, no longer useful and thrown away. We all hope to grow old but for many old age is the worst period of life, especially if you don't have someone who loves you. Small, we will help you. Click on the photos to enlarge! 29.12.2015 - This morning a man came to the animal shelter asking to give up his small dog, a 12-year-old similar to a terrier, because his wife became allergic, plus after an operation, the small dog showed aggression and for this reason was placed in the garden. Given the situation we have at the animal shelter we replied that we couldn't take him in, but we could help him find a new family. In response, he asked if we know any veterinarian who could put him down, paying. He left saying he would take him to take the necessary photos to post the appeal. This afternoon a small dog very similar was dropped along the access road to the animal shelter. It was running desperately, belly to the ground, zigzagging from one lane to another, dangerously approaching a field where two large Maremmano dogs are guarding the flock. We activated to recover him, two of us followed him by car, and he changed direction, then we overtook him forcing him to reverse and get closer to the animal shelter, but he continued to run looking around with desperate eyes, again changing direction. The moral is, after a long time and many kilometers chasing this little one, we managed to push him to the end of a dead-end road. Feeling cornered, the little one attacked us biting left and right, even biting his tongue so much that he was biting, until the arrival of a third volunteer we managed with a couple of blankets to make him harmless. We loaded him into the car (two volunteers in the trunk to keep him between the blankets without suffocating!) and rushed to the animal shelter. We finally put him in a transport crate and there the poor little one, extremely stressed, dirty with blood and with worn paw pads from the great run collapsed. We were heartbroken, seeing his wide eyes looking at us, the tongue hanging out, no reaction.... The veterinarian quickly understood the situation he was in, advised to leave him alone, and we, desperate, hoping his old heart could withstand the stress ... The waiting was agonizing, then a weak movement with the head, the ears moved at a noise made us hope ... Little creature, how much pain did you have to endure because of a cowardly owner? You were searching frantically, with a terrified look, and he? He will be wondering where you are now? After 12 years? Will he feel a bit guilty for what he did to you? Do your best little Cristiano, get back on your feet, we will try to heal the wounds of your heart. After 12 years of family life now he is at the animal shelter!!!!!!

About Cristiano

What life with Cristiano looks like

Cristiano is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at L.I.D.A. Olbia in Olbia.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cristiano, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cristiano?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. L.I.D.A. Olbia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cristiano on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cristiano if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — L.I.D.A. Olbia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cristiano already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cristiano isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with L.I.D.A. Olbia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cristiano and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
