Cro

Male · Senior · 11 years

mixed breed neutered male dog, born 10/2014 | Height: 28cm | Weight: ca. 9kg Children: no | Cats: no | Dogs: yes vaccinated | microchipped available This animal can be adopted upon finding a suitable place after sufficient familiarization. The touching story about a black puppy who was abandoned with his siblings had gained some attention on Facebook in October 2014. After Cro was adopted by someone, the social media story turned out to be fabricated. The young pup refused to eat in his new home, so he was immediately taken to the vet. The vet was horrified to find that Cro was only about 3 weeks old! The puppy was immediately hand-reared, but the owners knew very little about puppy rearing, so Cro unfortunately lacked clear rules and little socialization. This sad fate befalls "small, fluffy cuddle dogs" more often than one would like. Cro is the perfect example that even cute-looking dogs need training. Due to a lack of boundaries, the male dog eventually became a very territorial dog who bit a person in defense mode. Over time, similar incidents also occurred within the family. The owners were clear when surrendering Cro that they had raised him incorrectly. Despite training work, no improvement was seen at home, so he was ultimately brought to us. Dog meetings are mostly no problem, and Cro plays with other friendly dogs extensively and willingly. He also enjoys car rides and being left alone is no problem for him. Cro is not a dog for beginners! He needs clear rules and an owner who does not underestimate him despite his small size and pays attention to a calm and assertive leadership. Cro is looking for a place with an individual person. Potential adopters for Cro should be willing to plan a lot of time for mutual familiarization. This shelter animal has been with us for a long time and is unfortunately difficult to place due to his background. We are therefore very pleased to have PATEN.

About Cro

What life with Cro looks like

Cro is a large senior cat waiting at Tierheim Dechanthof in Mistelbach.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dechanthof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dechanthof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dechanthof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
