Adopt Damon

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Damon has a very sad story behind him. As a small puppy, he was bought from a breeder. At just 5 weeks old, he should have still been with his mother. At 3 months old, he was sold again. Unfortunately, to a family that gave him only pain and suffering. He was found thrown out in front of a village. He apparently waited there for a week. During that time, no one helped him. He was found lying next to the road, unable to stand on his legs. Damon came to us emaciated to the bone, still had a rope around his neck, which he was clearly tied to a kennel (if he had one). Unfortunately, we can no longer find out where and how he lived. But we know for sure that his life was full of suffering. For several weeks, he was physically and psychologically restored. In fact, an older spinal fracture was discovered in him and Damon had to undergo a complicated operation. Fortunately, his condition improved so much while he was with us that it wasn't necessary anymore. Now he is finally ready to give all his love to his new, better family. DAMON is a name derived from mythology. It means "loyalty" and "trust." And he is really a great, kind, and affectionate dog. However, he is suitable only for someone who knows similar breeds. He knows what to expect and knows how to properly lead and train such a dog. He is loving and protective towards his (now shelter) family and diligently guards them from strangers. Like a Rottweiler, he is simply a very strong household guard. He doesn't let anyone in without good reason. But he will love his people with all his heart. Because of the life he had, no one taught him anything, no one guided him properly. He is still playful and full of energy like a puppy. He loves toys and games with other dogs. He literally loves other dogs, always playing with his friends during exercise runs, chasing, and wrestling. He can tolerate friendly (not dominant) dogs. For adoption, Damon would ideally have initial optional visits, playdates, to get to know each other. He handles hygiene well. However, he is definitely not suitable for children. We have not tested him with cats. Damon is looking for his dream master. He's looking for someone who will understand him, who will give him enough stimulation, work, and walks, which they can do together on the couch. Don't make him wait for you for too long. He is suitable for an apartment or a house with year-round access to the yard. He will go to his new home vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He is located in the shelter in Svbaby near Poprad.

No bohužiaľ do rodiny, ktorá mu dala len bolesť a utrpenie. Našiel sa vyhodený pred jednou dedinou. Vraj tam takto čakal týždeň. No za ten čas mu nikto nepomohol. Znamená „vernosť“ a „dôvera“. A on je naozaj skvelý, milý a maznavý psík. Vie čo má očakávať a vie takého psíka správne viesť a učiť. Miluje hračky a hry s inými psíkmi. Druhých psíkov doslova miluje, stále sa so svojimi kamoškami vo výbehu hrajú, obkuskávaju, naháňajú.

About Damon

What life with Damon looks like

Damon is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Cesta za domovom in Slovakia.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Damon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Damon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Cesta za domovom handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Damon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Damon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Cesta za domovom will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Damon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Damon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Cesta za domovom early rather than rehoming privately; they know Damon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
