Pita

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

YES, this is her. The female dog from the well-known video, who trembled with fear at touch and screamed every time someone approached her, as if we were cutting her. Her life must have been full of fear and suffering. We cannot even imagine what she went through in the village, when she was so incredibly scared of people. She came to us with two puppies, Wrapik and Tortillka. She needed time, she needed to understand that the bad things are behind her. And now it's time for her to find an exceptional home. PITA is still doing fine. For her, it will be a longer road to complete peace. But she is in a phase where she can move forward and get to know the world. Pita doesn't trust strangers at first. She won't come to you by herself, she doesn't want to be petted. She will go for a walk with you, she will enjoy it. But you have to earn her trust over time. Just like we did. When getting ready for a walk, she still screams as if her life depends on it. But everything can be learned. Even that it's not bad. However, once she starts loving her person, you will get the most loyal dog in the world. Pita is an incredible golden heart. She will jump around you with joy, enjoying your presence. She gets along very well with other dogs. She doesn't seek conflicts. Even plays with them once she knows them better. She just guards her food in front of them. 😊 She loves lying on the couch. That would be enough for her. 😀 Also, she is a master at jumping up high. Pita still has a big fear of men. She needs a patient family that won't pamper her because she is a "little poor thing", but that will properly guide and teach her new things. All slowly and gently. But firmly. And above all, she is not suitable for first-time dog owners. Pita has lived through hell on earth. It left a huge hole in her that heals very slowly. But it is healing. And that is the most important thing. Who will become her lifelong healer? She is suitable for an apartment or a house with year-round access to the yard. She will go to her new home vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. She is located in the shelter in Soboslova near Poprad.

Jej život musel byť plný strachu a utrpenia. Všetko pomaly a citlivo. About Pita

What life with Pita looks like

Pita is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Cesta za domovom in Slovakia.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇰Adopting from Slovakia

Slovak rescue groups coordinate cross-border transport with European partners. Animals are chipped and vaccinated; sterilization is often included for adults and arranged post-adoption for puppies/kittens.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Cesta za domovom handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Cesta za domovom will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Cesta za domovom early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
